In an effort to make getting a mammogram a little more comfortable, the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary continued its support of DMH patients by purchasing 10 new mammography robes in larger sizes.
Valerie Bright, director of volunteer services for Davis Memorial Hospital, said the goal is to make the life-saving process of getting a mammogram as comfortable as possible.
“This is a project we have worked with for a long time,” Bright said. “We wanted to continue our sponsorship of the robes by purchasing 10 larger sized ones,” Bright said. “We are always looking for ways to make patients’ experiences at Davis Memorial Hospital positive, and this will help with that.”
“Women frequently comment on the nice quality of the robes. We’ve even been asked if they are for sale,” said Becky Moore, DMH Registered Mammography Technologist. “They definitely make a good impression and enhance the experience women have here.”
Each of the new robes is being embroidered by Seneca Designs. One side will note that the robe is compliments of the DMH Auxiliary, and the other will have the pink ribbon that is the symbol for breast cancer awareness. Volunteers also are hand-sewing belts to attach to the robes.
“The timing couldn’t be better since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Bright noted.
The robes, which are also sold at the Auxiliary’s gift shop, are one of several initiatives undertaken by the DMH Auxiliary to enhance patient care.
To encourage women to get mammograms, The DMH Mammography Department has expanded services to include evening hours. A doctor’s order still is required, and people can call 304.637.3185 for more information.
DMH Mammography Department achieved the three-year term of accreditation from the American College of Radiology, the gold standard for evaluating image quality and patient safety. The department is staffed by three registered mammography technologists.
“A mammogram can be a life-saving screening for women,” said Dr. Anne Banfield, DMH Director of Women’s Services. “We appreciate the continued support of the Auxiliary in making sure that all of our patients have a more comfortable experience.”
