The Canaan Valley State Park Foundation announces the opening of the new picnic pavilion at the Canaan Valley Resort State Park. The Canaan Valley State Park Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable organization that works to improve and provide local input into the Canaan Valley Resort State Park. In the past, the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation partnered with the Canaan Valley Resort State Park to allow uphill skiing at the resort, to establish a scenic viewing platform behind the ski hill, to upgrade bicycle trails, and to sponsor the annual Sunrise Scramble uphill ski race.

Years ago, the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation recognized the need for a sheltered picnic area at the Canaan Valley Resort State Park. The need for a sheltered picnic area exists because of the lack of existing picnic facilities and the frequent summer rains that occur in Canaan Valley.

After much effort, the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation resolved the problem by installing a new picnic pavilion at the park. The new picnic pavilion is at a scenic location near the visitor center, close to the campsite bathrooms, and next to the visitor center gift shop. The new pavilion is now open to the public and available to anybody who wishes to use it.

On Sunday, August 17, at 5:30 pm, the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation will host an inaugural party for the pavilion. We urge you to come by and view the new facility.

In gratitude, the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation wishes to thank the following:

  • Dr. E. D. Michael for being the principal donor behind the project.
  • West Virginia State Parks for providing a matching grant for project funding.
  • EnWood Structures for furnishing the pavilion kit.
  • Filler Construction for building the structure.
  • All the individuals who contributed to the Canaan Valley State Park Foundation.

We invite all residents and visitors to visit and use the new picnic pavilion located at Canaan Valley Resort State Park.
