PARSONS – Parsons City Council held a public hearing Tuesday to consider public comments on a proposed ordinance pertaining to defecation by dogs and cats. The Ordinance No 2015-11-001 is a proposal to amend Chapter 11 of the Parsons City Code to adopt a provision that requires owners to pick up and responsibly remove their pet’s fecal waste deposited on property that does not belong to the owner of the pet; providing a penalty; and consider said ordinance on its second and final reading.

Parsons City Administrator/Treasurer Jason Myers said the new section would be what goes into the new ordinance. No one attended the public hearing to offer their comments, and the Ordinance passed unanimously.

“I copied this from another ordinance in another town,” Myers said. “You can see the Ordinance number is in there and this is the final reading. It will be effective 30 days from passage.”

Councilman Tim Auvil said he and other Council members met with Mike Dougherty from West Virginia University working on the Comprehensive Strategic Planning. “We wanted to see what direction we want to go in,” Auvil said. “It was enlightening and we are going in the right direction. We are on the right track and are ahead of the curve.”

Auvil said he has excellent news. “This is the plan to tie our water system into Hamrick P.S.D.,” Auvil said. “We have a permit number from the Army Corps of Engineers.”

Auvil said the half-pipe at the Skate Park has been completed.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on June 2.
