Davis, WV. The Tucker County Alpine Festival Association is preparing for the 26th Annual Leaf Peepers Festival to be held in Davis, Thomas and Canaan Valley WV on September 26-28, 2014. Coining a phrase that is used to describe visitors during the fall foliage season, the Leaf Peepers Festival is a family oriented celebration of the early arrival of the blazing fall colors. “Due to our elevation, the fall colors arrive early in this area and usually peak in late September or early October”, said Bill Smith, President of the Alpine Festival. “The festival uses a unique format to ensure a full calendar of events for that weekend”, said Smith. “Businesses and organizations are encouraged to develop an event that is fall related and it will be added to the schedule”
Some of the events include the Leaf Peepers Parade, the second annual Talent Show, the “Run For It” 5K/2K run/walk, the West Virginia Appalachian Craft Show, a car show, the famous Duck Race, the WV Heritage Village and Oktoberfest. “The Tucker County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring and producing Oktoberfest this year and early plans show that it will be a good one” said Roxanne Tuesing, Chamber President. “We feature West Virginia crafted beers and local wineries along with live music and vendors of all shape and size. New this year is the food and beverage available on Friday night after the parade and during the talent show. The Oktoberfest tent will be serving some of the crafted beers to festival goers. There will be plenty of good food and music for all of the Leaf Peepers this year”, said Tuesing.
