The Preserve WV AmeriCorps program is the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia’s (PAWV) statewide national service initiative where AmeriCorps members help main streets thrive, communities capture their local history, and preserve beloved West Virginia landmarks. Preserve WV AmeriCorps is part of AmeriCorps State and National – a National Service initiative founded in the same spirit as AmeriCorps VISTA, the Peace Corps, and other service programs. The Preserve WV program is partially funded by an AmeriCorps grant from the AmeriCorps state agency, Volunteer West Virginia, as well as the AmeriCorps federal agency.
Through its Preserve WV AmeriCorps program, PAWV aids other under-resourced nonprofit organizations and government agencies focused on historic preservation as a tool to revitalize their communities. During one year of service, AmeriCorps members help organizations grow and become more effective and efficient at carrying out services to the community. AmeriCorps members’ primary objectives are twofold: to build the capacity of their sites while actively preserving West Virginia’s unique cultural heritage for the enjoyment and education of current and future generations.
Service members can begin one-year service terms between the months of October 15, 2025 and January 5, 2026. The following is required for sites to sponsor an AmeriCorps member:
Sites must be under-resourced (four or less employees) nonprofit organizations or government agencies with historic preservation and/or history-oriented missions. For sites with no paid staff, you must describe in the application how you will provide sufficient, consistent supervision to the member, and avoid mission creep and delays in responding to the member.
Sites must own a historic property that they maintain.
Site sponsor must pay a cash match for 2025-2026 in the amount of $7700/full-time member (1700 hours/year) or $3,850/half-time member (900 hours/year)
