Tucker County residents and visitors to Five River Campground have been treated to a patriotic greeting over the past few weeks.
Owners John and Joyce Bowers have recently erected 10 flag poles spanning a distance of 350 feet. Ten American flags have been waving a greeting to locals and guests at the campground. As the annual Pickin in Parsons Bluegrass Festival kicks off, eight of the 10 flags are being replaced by flags representing countries.
Joyce Bowers stated that during her research she has learned that flag poles of all countries are to be the same height, with the Americana flag at the end and flags of all friendly countries being displayed in alphabitic order.
Bowers said, “This year we have flags representing visitors from eight friendly countries. We are flying the American flag on each end.” Friendly countries having flags displayed at Canada, France, Ireland, Mexico, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
