The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats hosted its November meeting Monday, November 13 at The Dugout Restaurant in Parsons. Queen Mothers Debbie Cook and Carole Helmick presided over the meeting of 27 Red Hatters. Hostesses this month were Duchesses Bonnie Swyter, Connie Collins, Phyllis Carr and Janet Coleman.
November birthdays were announced and members serenaded Connie Collins and Sandy Karlan with their kazoos. Prior to lunch being served, Dorothy Judy said the blessing. After lunch, the Majesties played sports themed games with prizes and lucky tickets holders were awarded door prizes by the Duchesses. One of those prizes was a beautiful West Virginia blanket/wall hanging that was won by the Mayor of Parsons, Dorothy Judy. A raffle was held for a vintage doll adorned with a hand crocheted Red Hat outfit made by Linda Marden, Bonnie Swyter’s sister and a former Red Hatter, and was won by birthday girl, Sandy Karlan.
The December meeting will be Dec. 11 at the Elks Club in Elkins. Social hour will begin at 5 pm and dinner will follow at 6. All Majesties are asked to bring unwrapped gifts for children to be donated to Toys for Tots. Current and former queens will host the event.
