The Tucker County Senior Citizens held their monthly outpost at the Parsons Center on October 4, 2016. Evelyn Moore welcomed everyone. Everyone recited the Lord’s Prayer, gave the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang “God Bless America.”
Linda Bonner read the minutes from the June Outpost which were approved as read.
Those having October birthdays were recognized. They were Vonda Phillips, Nellie Workman and Lois Miller.
October is Breast Cancer Month. The Community Education Outreach Services (CEOS) were present to help recognize this and provide a beautiful cake for the group to share. They were asked to stand and be recognized for their contributions to the community. Dani Lambruno from the St. George Medical Clinic gave a brief talk about breast cancer and told the group the Bonnie’s Bus will be at the clinic at the end of October. Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy read a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer survivors were recognized and presented a pink carnation. Arlene Ramsey hung the Breast Cancer wreath in the Center for all to see.
Donna Helmick from the Women’s Aid in Crisis then informed the group that October is also Domestic Violence Month. She gave a brief talk about the services offered to women here in Tucker County and left literature for people to take home and read.
Sam Eichelberger then spoke about upcoming trips that are planned, payment due dates and that there are still some seats available for the November 29, 2016 one-day trip to Ligonier for a Country Christmas Program.
Roxanne Tuesing, candidate for County Commissioner spoke briefly about some of the needs of the county. These include flood wall upkeep, better phone service and occupants for the Industrial Park in Davis.
The group was then entertained by Jim and Meg Buddingh. They sang many songs that brought back memories to many of the seniors in attendance.
Door prized were won by Joyce Shahan, Merry Lowe, Mary Grado and Vera Knotts.
A blessing was given and the group enjoyed a delicious covered dish dinner with the Center providing the meat, potatoes and rolls while those present brought in a wide variety of side dishes and desserts.
