The Tucker County Senior Centers held their annual picnic at Hendricks Park on Monday, August 5th. After a brief welcome by Linda Bonner, the Tucker County Veterans presented the flag. The group gave the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Ruth Bullwinkle then gave a blessing on the day’s activities as well as on the delicious food that had been prepared.
The entertainment for the day was Meg and Jim Buddingh. They first led the group in singing “God Bless the USA”. Their other selections included: “This Old House”, “The Great Speckled Bird”, I’m Just An Old Chunk of Coal”, “Red River Valley”, “The Rose”, and “You Are My Sunshine”.
Throughout the day names were called and many door prizes were given away. No one went home empty-handed because if their name wasn’t called, they were given a beach chair to take with them.
Director Mary Alice Smith was introduced and gave recognition to all of the volunteers that have graciously stepped up to help keep our Mt. Top Center open for business.
The Senior Center provided hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, pasta salad, and drinks. Those attending had been asked to bring a side dish or dessert. There was a wide variety of delicious food to be devoured.
There were games set up before and after the program so people could see and participate in some of the games that are part of the Senior Olympics in June.
Everyone had a great time and the weather cooperated to make it a very enjoyable day.
We would like to give a big “Thank You!” to all those who spent time arranging things, serving, and helping to clean up afterwards.
