DAVIS, W.Va. – Blackwater Falls State Park’s annual SeptemberFest is Sept. 16–18, 2016, making it the first time for the popular event to be held on a weekend.
“What traditionally was a senior-oriented event has continued to attract a much younger audience year after year,” said Paulita Cousin, Blackwater Falls State Park naturalist and activity coordinator. “The entertainment has always been exceptional and well attended, and this year we’ve scheduled SeptemberFest on a weekend due to popular request. We also anticipate that fall foliage color changes will have begun in Tucker County’s mountainous areas that weekend, and that’s an additional attraction.”
SeptemberFest activities focus on entertainment, dining and overall enjoyment of the backdrop at Blackwater Falls. The weekend features the Flying Higher Birds of Prey program; a theater performance by Gary Reid of “A Life Story: the Life and Times of Carter Stanley;” music and entertainment by Dustin McCray, a singer/songwriter from West Virginia; hikes; and an ice cream social. There is also as scheduled train ride Saturday to the Trough on the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad. Advance ticket sales are required for the train excursion.
Costs for two people sharing a room at Blackwater Lodge is $476 to $480, based on the room styles. Rates for single occupancy also are available. This covers two nights of lodging, all entertainment, the train ride and transportation to and from the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, six full meals, two refreshment socials, door prizes and other activities such as crafts and hikes.
