Community Members Will Gather to Plan the Environmental Group’s Upcoming Quilting Project

Morgantown, W.Va. – On Wednesday, January 7, Sierra Club West Virginia – in collaboration with local quilter CJ Sews – will launch the “Quilting for Community” project at The Co-Op. The night, the first of many scheduled bi-weekly throughout January and February, is open to anyone seeking to find joy in community-building and fighting climate change through a storied, Appalachian folk craft.

Quilting brings people together in community, not only to sew, but to chat, share life and ambitions, and plan events in kinship. January 7 will mark the official launch of the “Quilting for Community” project, wherein local community members will be encouraged to attend and sew alongside others biweekly at The Retail Lab on Wednesdays this winter. Together, over the course of some weeks, the team will assemble a quilt to be presented and displayed at the Appalachian Studies Association conference in March.

What: Quilting for Community Launch Night: A gathering for anyone interested in helping craft Sierra Club West Virginia’s community quilt. The Co-Op bar will be open and the conversations will be inspiring as people of all walks of life come together to chat, strengthen community, and find joy in fighting climate change.

Where: The Co-Op, 131 Pleasant St, Morgantown, WV 26505

When: Wednesday, January 7, at 6PM to 8PM.

Organized By: West Virginia Sierra Club, the Co-Op, and local artist/quilter CJ Sews.

Please RSVP here and reach out to lisa.dibartolomeo@sierraclub.org with any questions.
