The St. George Academy Preservation Society held its third annual homecoming for the Academy Saturday, June 28, 2025. Past students, teachers and their families and community came together for this celebration on the lawn of the old school. The school was open for exploration of the historic items and information it now holds. DJ, Mitch McClure, provided Rock-n-Roll music. Twisted Sisters were on site for ceramic painting and local authors, Laura Mauzy and Debra Stiles were there to speak to those interested in their books and to purchase them. Marshall Parsons also donated a book written by his wife, Darlene, “The Parsons Pioneers.” Snow cones being sold by Paul Mauzy were welcome on this hot day and there was a yard sale under canopies donated by Nancy Dotson. Chances were are still being sold on a $150 donated gift basket which will be given away on Labor Day weekend. All proceeds gained by the homecoming will be used toward the restoration and upkeep of the Academy.

Becky Poling served as master of Ceremonies and lead the crowd In the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, announcements and prayer. Paul Mauzy, President, gave an update on the Academy and then he crowned Carol Jones Crosten as the Homecoming Queen. Carol had been a student at the school and still stays interested in the Academy and its functions. She was both surprised and happy rob be honored to be the Third academy Homecoming Queen. A Queen’s Reception with punch and cookies was provided for all in attendance. Carol was then driven around the town of St. George in a decorated side by side by mitch McClure to meet and greet the people. A surprise visitor who interviewed many attendees and took lots of pictures was Carl Feathers, a freelance writer who has written for the West Virginia magazine, Goldenseal, and the Tucker County Observer.

The board appreciates all who attended, those who gave donations for the yard sale, donated their time and also for the monetary donations received for the school restoration. If anyone is interested in donating toward the restoration of the Academy, mail donations to St. George Academy Preservation society, Nancy Dotson, Treasurer, Box 33 Academy Lane, Parsons WV 26287. If anyone would be interested in being on the Academy Board, please contact Paul Mauzy or one of the board members.
