The event titled “Color our World” focused on the arts with a book to go along with each week’s theme. Week one “Fabulous Foods” was led by Jes Streets, Cindy Harsh and Marcy Evick from Tucker Co Extension Service. Using food provided by Tucker County Community Action the children were led through fruit kabob making, paint stamping with fruits and vegetables, and a scavenger hunt. The second week “Magical Music” was led by Heather Lantz, music teacher at TVEMS. Heather had the kids making music with recorders and drums and dancing with pool noodles. The third week “Cosmic Colors” was led by Crystal Hardy, third grade teacher at TVEMS. Crystal led the kids through a step by step sponge painted galaxy on a canvas, constellation crafting using marshmallows and pretzel sticks, and glitter slime making. To kick off the last day of summer reading the kids gathered at the Mill Race Park to enjoy the splash pad and grilled hot dogs courtesy of the City of Parsons. Of the reading lists that were turned in, 2015 books were read during the 3 week program. The top readers this year were: 1st place Haisleigh Ranker, 2nd place Iestyn Bolinger, 3rd place Ryleigh Blue. All children were rewarded with treat bags with the top three readers receiving special totes. Local businesses contributed by donating gift certificates for the kids’ bags. For their contributions we would like to thank McDonalds, Shop n Save, Mr. Pizza, Happy Jax Frosted Memories, The Sunrise Coffee Co., Black Fork Pizza, and Piccolo Paula’s Caffe. We would also like to thank the Tucker County Extension office, Tucker County CEOS and Tucker County Community Action for preparing and delivering the kids lunches. We also appreciate all the parents, grandparents, etc. who brought the children to our program and the volunteers that made it so special. The kids had a great time as did the library staff!
