Eleven students from Tucker County High School visited at the Mt. Top Senior Center recently. The students were from the Creative Writing class taught by Mrs. Barbara Zimmerman.
In conjunction with Grandparents Day, the students had written original poems and stories about their grandparents. They read their poems and stories to the senior citizens that were present. They were well written selections and the senior citizens enjoyed the readings.
One of the students actually got to read her selections to her grandparents who were present. After everyone had read their presentations, the students sat face-to-face with the seniors and shared their life experiences. This was a fantastic time of fellowship and both groups learned something from this experience. One young man actually met a cousin he did not know he had because one of the seniors is related to his grandmother.
The students and the seniors both enjoyed having time to share with a different generation.
