The Town of Davis discussed at their Wednesday, March 11th meeting the possibility of making the Town of Davis Scholarship renewable in the future.

Currently, the $1,000 Scholarship is awarded on an Annual basis to a student who resides within the Town limits of Davis and intends to attend an accredited institution. If the proposed measure is passed, the Scholarship would offer recipients a maximum of $4,000 over four years.

The suggestion for renewal was raised by Mayor Al Tomson who attended the meeting via telephone.

“We do that as a one time thing, but college is multiple years, but I was going to propose that we give and continue that scholarship through the four years or as long, up to four years that, that student is in college,” Tomson said.

Council Member Joe Holmes agreed, but added that he felt that a GPA requirement should be attached, as well. Other requirements discussed included proof of enrollment in an accredited college or technical school.

The matter was tabled pending investigation into what other similar scholarships require for GPA thresholds and pending feedback from the Council on a draft submitted by Town of Davis Manager Joni Felton.

A decision is slated to be made at the Town of Davis Council’s March 25th meeting.
