The Town of Davis Council met in regular session. Councilman Terry Helmick was not present for the meeting.
The town appointed Nancy Lipscomb to the Planning Commission board. The focus of this group is concern for the rapid growth of Tucker County. Mayor Martin reported that the water plant project is almost 100% done. The water line project is about 98% done.
The council also approved the purchase of brackets for the utility poles. Banners of students from Davis, Thomas, and Canaan will be hung in the town for graduation. Estimated number of students is 17-20.
The town has sent out letters to residents that need to get their grass mowed. This has helped some and lawns that haven’t been mowed in years are now being mowed. They will give the residents ample time to get their grass mowed then will be sending out letters to the ones still not in compliance.
The town is planning on purchasing new playground equipment, installing new basketball hoops, and resurfacing the basketball courts at the Davis Community Center. The total needed is $85,197.10. They have gotten donations from the county, hotel/motel tax, private donors, and the sales/use tax. They have $67,000 towards the purchase as of June 23, 2021. If you would like to make a donation to help with this project you can stop in the City Hall or give them a call and talk to Joni or Tina.
The new Mayor of Davis will take the reigns July 1, 2021. Mayor Doug Martin swore in the new Davis Mayor, Al Tomson. Tomson said “I would like to thank Mayor Martin for all his hard work and a council that supported him”. Andy Snyder, Town of Davis Recorder, said “I want to commend Mayor Martin on the tremendous job he has done, especially on the water project”.
After the meeting was over the council presented Mayor Martin with a gift basket and stayed for cake.
