Saturday, the Tucker County Health Department (TCHD) was notified of 3 additional COVID-19 positive cases of Tucker County residents. No new cases were reported Sunday. TCHD is investigating these cases and has quarantined individuals who have been identified as close contacts according to CDC protocol. Currently, we have 5 active outbreaks in the county. The additional positive cases currently bring Tucker County’s total up to 257 confirmed positive cases since the beginning of this pandemic. Currently, we have 61 active cases and 196 that have recovered.
People say “no one is getting sick” or “99.8% of all positive cases recover” … Our response is, “People are getting sick and yes, our nation’s mortality rate is around .2%. However, that .2% is almost equal to 300,000 fellow Americans that we have lost to this virus. Those almost 300,000 people were someone’s mom, dad, brother, sister, son, or daughter. We’re not telling you what to do, but I’m asking you to “Please take extra precautions and protect yourself, your family and your neighbors and wear a face covering, social distance, quarantine if you are asked to and get tested if you are having any symptoms. Most of the positive cases we are seeing “do not have a fever”. St. George Medical Clinic and Mountain Top Clinic are continuing to offer testing. We would also ask you to please get vaccinated when it becomes available to you.”
“When will vaccine be available for me?”
From the WV Joint Information Center on COVID-19 Vaccine
“We are dedicated to ensuring that all West Virginians have access to a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible. Our initial focus in vaccine distribution is to take care of the most vulnerable in our state. Vaccines will be in limited supply at the beginning, so the first phase will be distributed to individuals in high-risk settings such as healthcare, first response, long-term care facilities, and education. This approach is imperative to preserve critical infrastructure, such as making sure our healthcare system can meet our state’s needs. We understand that there are questions regarding when the COVID-19 vaccine will be available, and we are urging patience for all those waiting. As we receive more vaccine supply and have vaccinated those outlined in the state’s plan for Phase 1, we will move forward with vaccinations for the general public. We appreciate your commitment to protecting West Virginia.”
