CHARLESTON – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia has scheduled a public comment hearing on June 4 for modifications to a wind farm proposed for Tucker and Grant counties.
Public comments will be taken in the application filed by Catamount Wind, LLC, at 4 p.m. at the PSC headquarters at 201 Brooks St., Charleston. An evidentiary hearing in the case will follow beginning at 9:30 a.m. June 5 at the same location.
Those who wish to participate in the public comment hearing should register with the Commission by 4 p.m. on June 3. Registration may be made through the Microsoft Teams meeting link at https://bit.ly/WVPSC20250604. You may also register by calling Alexis Weimer at (304) 340-0822 or Andrew Gallagher at (304) 340-0820; or by emailing aweimer@psc.state.wv.us or agallagher@psc.state.wv.us.
This case arose from a 2002 decision that granted permission to Mt. Storm Wind Force, LLC, to construct a wholesale wind-power electric generation facility. The operation was not constructed. In 2022, the name was changed from Mt. Storm to Catamount. On February 5, Catamount asked for modifications to the operational design and for the Commission to OK those changes without a hearing.
The Commission denied that request on April 8 and set the hearings for June.
Catamount proposes to reduce the number of wind turbines from 72 to 37 at 44 possible locations. It intends to expand the turbine blade lengths while reducing from 250 megawatts to 150 MW, the plant’s capacity. It proposes installing all collection lines underground and constructing a 10-mile transmission line of less than 200 kilovolts to the William Substation in Tucker County, located farther from the Town of Bayard than in its 2017 proposal.
