Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick has appointed an interim director at Cedar Lakes Conference Center while department officials search for a general manager for the facility.
West Virginia Department of Agriculture Special Projects Manager Jerry Ours has been named interim director, effective immediately
The WVDA is currently accepting applications for the full time position and a decision on filling the post is expected sometime soon.
Ours replaces Adam Canter who resigned the Cedar Lakes manager’s job earlier this month to take a position with another state agency.
“We need someone immediately to take care of the day-to-day decisions and I have full confidence that Jerry can handle the task,” said Commissioner Helmick.
The camp has served as the de facto home-away-from-home for the West Virginia FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) since it was established by the State Board of Education in 1949.
It remained under the control of the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) until the 2016 legislative session when it was transferred to the WVDA, effective July 1.
