The Mountaineer Garden Club recently selected their Yards of the Month for September.

Mr. Kenny Teagarden received recognition for his unique banana trees that he has tended to for many years and one is more than 20 feet in height. Two recommendations he provided for successful growing are to plant your banana trees in full sunlight and in soil that is moist. After the fall frost, he will remove the banana leaves and place the in his flower beds to compost. Around the town of Parsons are many banana trees that he has given to others to start their own.

The Hair Haven, located along Rt. 219, beautifully welcomes customers and visitors alike to the town of Parsons with colorful flower displays of petunias and other greenery in their many window boxes. Also beside their main entrance are large ferns that are quite majestic.

Mrs. Rita Jones of Crayfish Way received recognition for her beautiful pick and yellow roses along with Black-eyed Susan’s and Autumn Fall sedum that grace her home along Smokey Hollow Road. Also a beautiful one- star American flag adorns her front porch.
