PARSONS – Parsons has appointed an Acting Municipal Judge while Linda Hockman, Parsons Municipal Judge is on medical leave.
Jane Barb took the Oath of Office Tuesday, given by Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy and will serve as the Acting Municipal Judge until the return of Hockman. Judy said she is pleased Barb stepped up to help by serving in this position.
“We are happy Jane accepted this position,” Judy said. “If the position is not filled, it puts the City in limbo. Without a Municipal Judge, any tickets issued by the City Police cannot be processed, so we really needed this position filled.”
Judy said everyone really appreciates Barb accepting the duties.
“We appreciate Jane taking this position tremendously,” Judy said. “She has so many qualifications. She was a Tucker County Magistrate for 24 years and she taught for five years. She was appointed and served on the Parsons City Council and we know her well.”
Judy said Barb is like a family member they have been able to work with.
“We hope Linda gets well soon,” Judy said. “We appreciate Jane filling in until Linda’s return.”
Barb said she is happy to help out in her community.
“I am doing this mostly for Linda,” Barb said. “They asked me because I have the background experience.”
Barb said she spoke with Hockman and said she is doing well and seeing some improvement. She is in rehab now and I am hoping she will be back before long. She said in the position she will mostly be handing items such as traffic and parking tickets.
During the February 7 Parsons City Council meeting, Parsons Police Chief Bill Rowe asked Council to consider hiring an Acting Municipal Judge while Hockman is off work.
