PARSONS – Tucker County Board members received an attendance update for the third nine weeks of school during their Monday meeting. Attendance Director Amber Kyle said the attendance covers the 993 students enrolled in the three county schools.
“Davis Thomas is at 94.47 percent, Tucker Valley is at 93.14 percent and Tucker County High is at 93.45 percent with a total for the county of 93.55 percent attendance rate,” Kyle said. “Given the fact we have dealt with a large amount of flu, positive testings for flu as well as a lot of pink eye and head lice, this is pretty good. We are doing well for what the last nine weeks have been.”
BOE member Judy Fairbanks said she attended an Extension Meeting.
“They had asked us for money and you (Dr. Eddie Campbell) had told them of our dilemma,” Fairbanks said. “They were turned down.”
BOE members reviewed the February Transportation Supervisor Report supplied by Jonathan Hicks and the Aesop Employee Absence Report for February. Members reviewed the February Financial Report and approved a memorandum of agreement with the West Virginia University Cooperative Extension Service and the County Extension Service Committee.
“The agreement with the West Virginia University Cooperative Extension Service is one we have had for years,” BOE President Tim Turner said. “We are supplying them with zero money, but we just agree to go into cooperation with them on different activities.”
Tucker County BOE members voted unanimously to hire James Ambrose as the physical education/health teacher at Tucker County High School effective with the 2017-2018 school year.
Dr. Eddie Campbell, superintendent of Tucker County Schools, made a recommendation to hire Tracy Teets, March, 21 as treasurer, replacing Dave Lambert who resigned last month.
“I would like to ask the Board to approve my recommendation of Tracy Teets as our new treasurer,” Campbell said.
BOE members voted unanimously to hire Teets as treasurer.
“Thank you for the opportunity,” Teets said. “I look forward to working with each of you.”
“Your qualifications were very impressive,” Janet Preston, BOE vice president said.
“We look forward to working with you,” Turner said.
Following a 10 minute executive session, BOE members voted unanimously to accept the resignation of substitute teacher Tina Carr effective immediately.
The next Tucker County BOE meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. April 3 at the Board Office. During this meeting, BOE members will take action on the Reduction in Force and Transfer Hearings. Members will take action on rehiring probationary service and professional personnel and hold their first school calendar hearing for the 2017-2018 school year.
