Ken Smith welcomed over 50 community members attended the fourth annual “Celebrate Parsons” event Sunday, May 6, at the gymnasium of First Baptist Church in Parsons. The event was catered by Tuscan Grill Catering.
Awards were given out to eight recipients who were quite surprised and humbled to receive them. A 50/50 drawing was held as well as a silent auction.Sponsors for the event were: McClain Printing Co., Hansford Insurance, and Stevens Florist.

The Business Person of the Year award was given to Garry and Carol Thomas of CJ’s Pizzeria. Past winners if this award areJon Bush, Oak Barrel & Piccolo Paula’s, and Ken Smith of McClain Printing and Debbie Stevens of Stevens’ Realty.A long time employee of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Cindy Helmick was honored as Employee of the Year. Previous winners were: Crystal Nelson, Jim Hebb and Carol Hebb.
Outstanding Safety Person of the Year was awarded to WV State Police trooper Kevin Keplinger.
Past winners of this awrd are: Bill Rowe, Preston Simmons and Chris Teter.
Dr. Guy H. Michael affectionate known as Doc Pete, was named Distinguished Senior Citizen of the Year.
Doc Pete joins Bessie Pennington, Vera Auvil and Evelyn Moore as winners of this award.
The Most Courageous Person of the Year was awarded to Bonnie Foster Hebb Knotts. .
Knotts joins Jaelyn Myers, Faye Tag Stiles and our World War II veterans.
David Boots Humphrey was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Boots joins Bud & Jane Parsons, Janice McDaniel and Nancy Dotson.
The top honor of the year was awarded to City of Parsons employee Tammy Greenlief Michael. Michael joins Jason Myers, Jimmy Judy, and Lowell Moore.
