PARSONS – Each year, CEOS members gather to sponsor a Spring Tea, and this year, members gathered hoping to spark enrollment for the group.
During the event, the group sponsors an auction to raise funds to help 4-Hers attending county camp. Tucker County Extension Agent in Training Jesica Streets said this year’s event was a huge success.
“This year at the CEOS Spring Tea, they raised between $600 and $700 and they voted to donate $1,000 in county camp scholarships this year,” Streets said. “They also provided food during an auction to reach the $1,000 level for the donation.”
Streets said the donation is an awesome help to those attending camp. She said the price for camp of $100 includes lodging, food for five days as well as their classes.
“The $1,000 will go a long way in helping the kids. The donation will be divided to help pay for every 4-Her attending camp. Each club gives $10 per club member attending camp and the leader’s association gives a scholarship to each 4-Her attending camp that completes a project.”
Streets said this year, the CEOS Spring Tea was held at the Parsons Senior Center. She said the meal was delicious and each member brought a covered dish to share.
“Line-Audrey made a presentation about living in Cameroon. The CEOS helped sponsor her as an international student at West Virginia University,” Streets said. “Line-Audrey talked about the different places in Cameroon and the economics of the country. A lot of what she emphasized was when people think of Cameroon, they think of the safari and being in the desert. But she said Cameroon is a very lush and green country, very much like West Virginia.”
Streets said the CEOS enjoyed hearing from Line-Audrey.
“The state CEOS group sponsors a scholarship for international students and as part of the sponsorship, the students come and speak with the CEOS groups on a county level,” Streets said. “Line-Audrey has helped to create a lesson about the country of Cameroon that will be taught to each of the CEOS groups in West Virginia. This is part of her responsibility for the CEOS gifting her the scholarship.”
Streets said Line-Audrey is a civil engineering major at West Virginia University.
CEOS membership has no age limit and is open for both women and men. Additional information about the Tucker County CEOS is available by calling the Tucker County Extension Office at 304-478-2949 ext. 209.
