Cortland Acres has so much to offer, and more is on the way. Improvements on the campus are making it a true community for the people in our area.
Dan Bucher, Cortland Acres Development Director said, “The vision of the founders and the present Cortland Acres board of directors is much bigger than any one person. We live and breathe this vision.” Recent projects have definitely proven this statement.
The recently completed Blackwater Unit provides short term rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. Residents may occupy a private room, with a small visitation area in front of it, from one week to a couple of months. This unit includes its own dining area and living room area. A patio and fire ring are easily accessible as well.
Currently, there are two building projects underway. One project is a building with four studio apartments. This building is adjacent to US219. It will house temporary workers that travel some distance to supplement the staff at Cortland Acres. Individuals using these apartments will be on eight to twelve week assignments.
The other building under construction will be an addition to the Pines at Cortland. This building will be made up of four homes. Each home will be nine hundred square feet. Two bedrooms, one and one- half baths, a covered porch and outdoor storage unit are features of each home. Residents here will have indoor and outdoor maintenance and lawn care provided.
Residents of the Pines are in a convenient location for outpatient therapy. In addition, they can have access to Greenhouse High Tunnel plots in order to cultivate their own vegetables. The onsite greenhouse also provides an area for residents to use as well as a section for the Cortland Acres dietary department.
Considering all of the new construction, volunteer services and quality care at Cortland Acres, it is obvious that it is a special place. It truly is – a community on the mountain!
