PARSONS – The Parsons City Council members met Tuesday and during the meeting, members talked about the bill for the recent street paving, which was about $10,000 more than they had anticipated. Parsons City Administrator/Treasurer Jason Myers said the total cost was a little more than $96,000.
“They went over because there were some areas where there were drainage areas and that took extra asphalt, which put the tonnage over,” he said. “Council voted to reallocate some Harman Funds to cover those costs. They took some funding from the GIS mapping to pay the invoice for the paving.”
Myers said the paving was on Poplar Street, Davis Street, part of Pilfer Street, Virginia Street, Merrill Street, Chris Drive, Mill Street, a big section of Main Street, a section of Walnut Street, part of Central Avenue and a good section of Kohler Street.
“They did an excellent job,” Myers said. “The state paid for part of the paving from the intersection of 219 and Kohler, down Kohler Street to Poplar Street and to the end of the Corrick’s Ford Battlefield because they used that as an access road during the disaster.”
Myers gave an update on the Splash Park. He said the council paid an invoice to Huffman and it is estimated the park should have its grand opening the first weekend in August.
“We are looking at Friday, Aug. 5 to have some sort of a celebration,” Myers said. “We will receive training Aug. 2 from the folks we bought the equipment from.”
Members of the Parsons City Council approved a $200 sponsorship to the Allegheny Highland Trails Bluegrass Festival, which was held last Saturday in Montrose.
Finally, the council granted Christopher and Heidi Snider a waiver allowing them to keep chickens. Myers said the approval was approved because they received a doctor’s order for chickens for educational purposes.
The next regular meeting of the Parsons City Council is slated for 6 p.m. Aug. 2.
