The Tucker County Chamber of Commerce held their annual Awards Banquet May 16th at Bear Paw Lodge at Canaan Valley Resort. Executive Director Jessica Waldo began the night’s festivities with greeting the guests. This was followed by an invocation and blessing by Nancy Dotson. TCCC President Glenda Crawford gave a welcome address.
This year’s guest speaker was Mark Bowe of Barnwood Builders. Bowe is best known for his Magnolia Network television series. The series is currently in its 17th season. Bowe is a West Virginia native. Bowe and his crew have worked on projects in Tucker County and Bowe said he anticipates the episodes to air sometime this fall.
The first award was presented to Robyn Nestor for Educator of the Year. The award, sponsored by Mountain Hospice, was presented by Tucker County High School Principal Alex Cork.
Next, the Student of the Year award was presented to Macy Helmick. The award was sponsored by Sirianni’s Cafe in Davis.
The Employee of the Year was presented to Administrator to the Tucker County Commission Shelia DeVilder. The award was sponsored by the Inn at Canaan.
Business Person of the Year was Marsha Waybright. The award was sponsored by Best of Canaan.
The Community Service Award was given to Judy Cronauer for her various volunteer service throughout the county. The award was sponsored by Canaan Valley Resort.
The Cultural Heritage and Arts award was presented to John Bright for his support of the arts and music scene at this venue The Purple Fiddle in Thomas. The award was sponsored by ArtSpring.
A Special Award was presented to the 2024 Tucker County Boys Basketball Team for their second year at State. The award was sponsored by the St. George Medical Clinic.
A Special Award in Outdoor Recreation was presented to former competition cyclist Sue Haywood for her volunteer contributions. The award was sponsored by Blackwater Bikes.
This year’s Tuckineer went to Roscoe C. “Ronnie” Beall III. Beall accepted the award, sponsored by Citizens Bank of West Virginia, in a heartfelt and moving address. The crowd presented Beall with a standing ovation.
