The West Virginia State Parks officials announced earlier this month that Canaan Valley State Park has completed upgrades to its ski area that it said will “enhance the guest experience at one of West Virginia’s top winter destinations.”
Acting Chief of West Virginia State Parks Dillard Price said that Canaan Valley showcased West Virginia as premier destination for winter tourism. “From the thrill of fresh snow to the stunning mountain views, Canaan Valley continues to show why West Virginia is a world-class winter destination,” Price said.
The upgrades were funded through a $6 million investment from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) and included upgrades such as a new snowmaking pump house that was designed to deliver more efficient
and consistent snow coverage across the mountain. The improvements also included a new snow groomer to improve the smoothness of the slopes throughout the ski season.
“With these upgrades, we’re enhancing the quality, reliability and excitement of winter tourism in Almost Heaven,” Price said.
Canaan Valley Resort has 47 trails within 850 skiable acres and is located within the highest mountain valley east of the Mississippi River. In addition to alpine and Nordic skiing, the resort also offers snowboarding, snow tubing and ice skating, the WVDNR said. The Resort also offers lodge rooms and cabins for overnight guests, as well as a variety of dining options and social activities.
