DAVIS – Tucker County Chamber of Commerce members took advantage of the opportunity to network with one another in a relaxed atmosphere during the Chamber Business After Hours event at Canaan Valley Resort Wednesday. Tucker County Chamber of Commerce President Roxanne Tuesing said she felt the event was a great success.
“This is our first 2016 Chamber After Hours event and it is sponsored by Canaan Valley Resort,” Tuesing said. “I think we have a great turnout and the food is amazing. We hope to do a Business After Hours event quarterly and our next one will be hosted by Timberline Realty in April.”
Tuesing said the event gives members the opportunity to mingle and talk before going home.
“It offers Chamber members the opportunity to network and find out how everyone’s businesses are running,” Tuesing said.
Tuesing said she encourages businesses to join the chamber.
“There are some new and exciting things coming up,” Tuesing said. “We have a new website coming up and are working on a new map. Things are moving in Tucker County and we want others to be a part of that. The Chamber helps businesses through networking and ideas from others. It helps to work together with other businesses in Tucker County to achieve goals.”
Canaan Valley Resort General Manager Steve Drumheller said the Business After Hours is offered to businesses through the Chamber and said Canaan Valley stepped up to host the first event to bring he business people in and let folks know what they have to offer.
“We wanted businesses to know we are here and we will work with them to fill their needs,” Drumheller said. “We are working to reach out to the community.”
Drumheller said two years ago, Canaan Valley resort changed and was rebuilt.
“We used to have 250 lodge rooms and we tore them all out,” Drumheller said. “We replaced them with two wings which each have 80 rooms. We have 160 total deluxe lodging rooms. They are really nice.”
Drumheller said they did a small amount of renovations to the core area.
“What amazes me is the amount of people who live close to us and do not even know about our upgrades,” Drumheller said. “They need to stop by and see what we have done.”
Drumheller said Canaan Valley Resort has 24,000 square feet of meeting space including rooms, covered pavilions and meeting areas. “We have lots of meeting space folks can take advantage of,” he said.
Tucker County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jessica Scowcroft said the Business After Hours is another offering of the Chamber for its members.
“This allows Chamber members to meet and greet with the community,” Scowcroft said. “Canaan approached us because there are lots of changes at the resort and they wanted the chance to invite people to the resort and see what they have going on.”
Scowcroft said the Chamber is going to try to offer the Business After Hours events at least quarterly.
“Any Chamber member who would like to host one of the events should get ahold of me and we will work it out,” Scowcroft said. “There are lots of folks in the community who have not been to Canaan to see what has been done, and tonight, we are offering them a look into the changes. It is amazing.”
Scowcroft said the Chamber is working on lots of upcoming events and offerings including their website, a Tucker County roadmap and the May Chamber Awards Banquet.
