The Town of Davis held an emergency meeting November 13th to pass a resolution regarding a leak on the Weimers Dam. The meeting was to pass a resolution to apply for State funding to repair a leak in the dam.
Davis Mayor Al Tomson addressed the room that the emergency meeting was to address the issue of the leaking Weimers Dam, but no other business was going to be conducted during the session. “This is an emergency meeting for a resolution for the Weimers Dam leak,” Tomson said. “No other business is going to be discussed.”
Tomson said the council had a resoltion and plan to discuss during the session. “So we have a resolution,” Tomson said. “We have a plan.”
In regards to their plans, Tomson said the council had vendor, cost and everything they need to submit to the State for a funding request. “We have a plan,” Tomson said. “ We even have a vendor. We may have an approximate cost.”
Tomson said the resolution was to submit to the State for funding. “The resolution is basically to submit an emergency project to the State for funding,” Tomson said.
The amount the council are requesting from the State, according to Tomson is $100,000 for reparirs to the dam. “We are asking for emergency funding of about $100,000 to do the repair work,” Tomson said.
Tomson said the dam is losing more water every day. “We really want to get that thing fixed,” Tomson said. “Not only are we loosing water, but all of a sudden, we are losing a lot more water and that’s the scary part.”
According to Tomson the hole is increasing and due to the dropping temperatures, the pump the Town is using to pump water from the Blackwater is not wanting to start due to the cold weather. “The hole’s getting bigger,” Tomson said. “And the pump is still pumping water from the Blackwater, but we’re having trouble starting the pump now because its getting colder. So we’re kind of in emergency mode at this point.”
The resolution was approved in a motion made by Mayor Tomson in a unanimous vote by the council.
