PARSONS – The Tucker County Veterans Memorial Wall in Parsons has been called one of the most beautiful in the area, and on Monday, a donation by Dominion Virginia Power employees made the memorial even more special for future generations. A new stainless steel podium, designed by Tucker County Veteran Roger Murphy and crafted by Dominion Virginia Power employees David Murphy and Jack Evans was presented to the Tucker County Veterans.
Tucker County Veterans, their family members, Dominion Virginia Power employees and elected officials gathered to thank those who made and donated to podium. Roger Murphy thanked Dominion for their donation.
“We would like to just say thank you from the Tucker County Veterans,” Roger Murphy said.
Rich Ford, Station Director of the Mount Storm Power Plant with Dominion Virginia Power said they were glad to share in the day.
“We supported the guys who made the podium,” Ford said. “We were happy to do it.”
“One of our employees came to us and asked if we would help support them making this podium for the Tucker County Veterans,” Ford said. “The guys made it and they did an excellent job. We are here to support them and thank the Veterans for their service.”
Dominion Virginia Power employees David Murphy and Jack Evans built the podium. Tucker County Veteran Roger Murphy said the podium will be clear coated to help preserve it for generations to come.
Lowell Moore, Tucker County Commission President, said it’s always an honor and pleasure to recognize the Veterans.
“We need to recognize our Veterans past and present for their service,” Moore said. “Their service brings us the freedoms we enjoy today. I think the Veterans are sometime forgotten and I hope Tucker County never does that. We need to support our Veterans as well as remember and pray for them.”
Tucker County Commissioner Diane Hinkle said the donation from Dominion was a wonderful way to kick-off the weeklong celebration of Veterans.
“Our Veterans are very deserving and obviously, very appreciated of the outstanding craftsmanship that went into the podium,” Hinkle said. “I am honored and humbled to be part of this ceremony. There isn’t a day that I’m not thankful for the freedoms we enjoy because of their past military service and I’m also very aware and appreciative of their continued service to their community.”
Hinkle said many local Veterans continue their service as civic leaders, community volunteers and generous donors to charitable causes. “I have a great deal of respect and admiration for all Veterans and feel very fortunate to have so many friends among the Tucker County Veterans.”
The Tucker County Veterans Memorial Wall was completed in 2004. Additional information about the Tucker County Veterans is available on Facebook under Tucker County Veterans.
