To bring awareness of Grain Safety Week March 27 – 31, Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College’s Ag Innovation department hosted a community farm safety discussion with the support & expertise of Mr. Daryl See, safety director of ER Excavating & Utilities LLC and past president of the WV Poultry Association along with Mr. David Workman, Hardy County commissioner & Eastern Ag Farm Fellowship business coach. This discussion and screenplay of “SILO” the film brought on-farm safety to the attention of many members of the local community. “In 2,000 bushels of corn, victims have 2 to 3 seconds of reaction time, 4 to 5 seconds until becoming entrapped, and 11 to 22 seconds until becoming totally engulfed,” said See, “We hope whether your rural enterprise has grain bins, ATVs, heavy equipment, PTO shafts, or any sort of harm-causing technology that you seek education and take the time to prepare yourself to prevent accidents.” We want to especially say thank you to Mr. Daryl See and Mr. David Workman for leading this discussion.
