PARSONS, W.Va.— More than 125 local sponsors contributed to the Tucker County Family Support Center’s fourth annual Cindy’s Giving Tree program. The overwhelming generosity of the community provided 226 kids from Tucker County with Christmas presents.
“We estimate that over $39,500 worth of Christmas presents were distributed during this year’s program,” said April Miller, executive director of the Tucker County Family Resource Network. “The generosity from our community surprises us every year.”
The program was established in 2018 in memory of Cindy Simmons, long-time employee of the Tucker County Family Resource Network.
“Cindy’s Giving Tree is designed to help support local families by offsetting the sometimes-challenging costs that comes along with the holidays, “said Sandra Bohon, director of the Tucker County Family Support Center. “The goal is sharing and spreading the joy of the Christmas holiday to everyone and we think we’ve successfully achieved that again this year.”
Miller recalled that Simmons loved the holidays and her goal in life was to make sure kids and families had all the support they need. The Tucker County Family Support Center continues to honor her giving spirit through Cindy’s Giving Tree and the Cindy’s Closet Essentials Pantry, which supplies food, school supplies, baby diapers and hygiene supplies to local families in need.
Cindy’s Closet is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 100 Education Lane in Parsons. If you would like more information on programs of the Tucker County Family Support Center, call 304-478-3827.
