After almost 10 years as the Office Manager at the Tucker County Solid Waste Authority, Carol Helmick is retiring.  The August 28th meeting of the board was her last meeting with the board as she is slated to retire the end of August.  Prior to the meeting, Mark Holstine, Presiding Chair recognized Helmick’s service.  “This is Miss Carol’s last official meeting,” Holstine said.  “She will be retiring at the end of the month.”

According to Holstine, Helmick will remain on an as needed advisory capacity with the Solid Waste Authority.  “She is not going to totally escape us,” Holstine said.  “We are going to keep her around a little bit.  But she will officially retire.”

Holstine thanked Helmick for her years of service.  “I would like to say that I truly appreciate what you’ve done over the last three or four years, however long it’s now been,” Holstine said.  “Trusting us with what was going on   showed a lot of fortitude on your part.  All these people coming in that you had no idea who they were, telling you how bad everything was, but you stuck here and helped us immensely to solve this issue.”

Holstine credited Helmick with helping to turn the Solid Waste Authority around over the past couple of years.  “A lot of credit goes to Miss Carol for the situation that this Authority now finds itself in,” Holstine said.  “She put her nose down and did everything she could do to help us do it.  So, I really appreciate it.”

Holstine referred to Helmick as a “blessing” to the Authority.  “Thank you very much.  You are a blessing to this place.  We couldn’t have done it without you,” Holstine said.

“Thank you, Mark,” Helmick said.  “That means a lot.”

A small reception was held with the board serving sandwiches, assorted dips and spreads and a chocolate cake.  “That’s why we have the refreshments,” Holstine said.  “We have cake, we have food.  Please stay as long as you wish after the meeting.”

The next meeting of the Tucker County Solid Waste Authority will be held September 18th at 3 p.m. at the Tucker County Solid Waste Authority Office located at 284 Landfill Road in Davis.  Meetings on October 30th at 3 p.m. and December 11th at 3 p.m. are slated to follow.  There will be not be a meeting held in November.
