HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ hosted East Hardy on Thursday January 28th. The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a sluggish start, but Tucker County got the home victory over East Hardy 55-41.
Tucker County owned the first quarter as the home standing Lady Mt. Lions led after one quarter 17-5. In the second quarter the Lady Cougars fought back to outscore Tucker County 16-12 to make the score 29-21 Tucker County at the half.
Tucker County controlled the third quarter as they scored 16 points and held East Hardy to 7 points to lead after three 45-28. The Lady Cougars battled back once again in the fourth to cut the Lady Mt. Lions lead to single digits, but Tucker County pulled away late to capture the win 55-41.
Elizabeth Nichols led all scorers with 17 points for Tucker County. Sydney Nestor collected a triple-double for Tucker County as she had 15 points, 12 rebounds and got 12 steals on the night. Sydney Moore added 9 points and 10 rebounds for Tucker County in the win.
SHINNSTON – The #2 “A” Lady Mt. Lions traveled to #2 “AA” Lincoln on Saturday January 30th. Lincoln outscored Tucker County 28-7 in the second quarter and the Lady Cougars took down the Lady Mt. Lions 69-42.
Lincoln jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but Tucker County fought back as the home standing Lady Cougars led after one 19-14. The second quarter belonged to Lincoln as they hit 5 three point baskets and outpaced the visiting Lady Mt. Lions 28-7 to lead 47-21 at the half.
In the third quarter Tucker County could not cut into the Lincoln lead as both teams scored 12 points in the third to make the score 59-33 after three quarters. The fourth quarter followed the same script as the third as Lincoln outscored Tucker County 10-9 and Lincoln captured the victory by the final score of 69-42.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Leslie Nestor and Madison Reall added 6 points each and Jenna Walker led the Lady Mt. Lions with 7 rebounds.
The Lady Mt. Lions(12-3) will return to action on Thursday February 4th at Pendleton County and then on Saturday February 6th Tucker County will host Charleston Catholic for a varsity only game at 1pm.
