Lady Mt Lions capture 12th straight sectional title

ELKINS – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team started Sectional play last Tuesday February 23rd against Tygarts Valley at Elkins High School in the Sectional Semi-Finals. The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a slow start but pulled away for the big victory 56-21.

Tucker County jumped out to an 11-3 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Sydney Nestor led the Lady Mt. Lions with 15 points in their 56-21 victory. Elizabeth Nichols followed with 10 points for Tucker County in the win.

ELKINS – The Lady Mt. Lions took on Notre Dame for the third time this year on Thursday February 25th at Elkins High School for the Region 2 Section 1 Championship. The Tucker County Girls’ held on for the 44-36 win to capture their 12th straight Sectional crown.

The first quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they led the Lady Irish 12-4 after one. Notre Dame fought back in the second as they outscored Tucker County 14-9 to cut the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 21-18 at the half.

Tucker County would outscore Notre Dame in the third 9-6 to push the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 30-24 after three. The Lady Irish cut into the lead in the fourth, but Tucker County held on to take the Sectional Championship victory 44-36.

Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 19 points and Elizabeth Nichols added 8 points, 6 rebounds, 6 blocks. Sydney Moore collected 10 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.

Tucker County(20-3) will host Pocahontas County today for the Regional Championship at 7pm. The winner will advance to the WV Girls’ Basketball State Tournament on March 10th. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
