THOMAS, W.Va. – The Tucker County Photography Club is seeking photographic art from artists depicting the scenic beauty of the local region. The images will be displayed as 40×60 inch high-quality canvas prints in the new Blackwater Short-term Rehabilitation Center at Cortland Acres. “We are looking for photographers who are willing to donate their images to this effort,” member David Miller said. “In return for the photo, the name of the photographer will be displayed next to the print along with the title and the location where the image was taken. Photographers will retain full rights to their images.” A total of 14 photographs will be chosen from the entrees and displayed throughout the new rehabilitation center for approximately one year. At the end of the display period the prints will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Cortland Foundation. “We are very excited about collaborating with the members of the Tucker County Photography Club to create an unique exhibition featuring scenic beauty from the region,” said Beth Clevenger, administrator of Cortland Acres. “Each of the 14 private rooms in our new short-term rehabilitation center has a large picture window where patients recovering from orthopedic surgery, such as a hip replacement or knee replacement can enjoy a great view of nature. With these pieces of art, we will be bringing views of nature indoors.” Miller said that the images need not be restricted to Tucker County, but may also include surrounding counties in northern and eastern West Virginia and western Maryland. If selected, the photographer will be requested to grant Cortland Acres a one-time single use of their image for the specified purpose. The printing and display costs will be borne by Cortland Acres. Photographers interested in submitting their artwork for consideration are requested to submit no more than four high-resolution JPG images on either a USB flash drive or writable optical disk. Images must be at least 240 ppi, in landscape (2×3) orientation and in the native resolution of the camera used. Cameras having a 10 MP or greater sensor (crop sensor or larger) should be capable of producing images of suitable quality for the print size planned. Upsizing of images is not required and strongly discouraged. Please do not include watermarks or other markings on the images. Randall Sanger will be the judge and curator of the 2016 collection. For over 20 years Sanger has dedicated himself to photographing the natural wonders of West Virginia. He is a co-author of the award-winning book West Virginia Waterfalls: The New River Gorge. He is a juried fine art photographer at Tamarack – The Best of West Virginia, located in Beckley and at the Buxton & Landstreet Gallery, located in Thomas. His work is in private and corporate collections and has been used for marketing and corporate recruitment. To submit images for consideration please submit your name, address, email, photo, title of each image and location where each image was taken. Mail the information along along with a USB drive or writeable disk containing the images to: Photography Exhibition, 39 Cortland Acres Lane, Thomas, WV 26292. Please clearly label the drives or disks with your full name. Drives and disks will be returned at the end of the project. Deadline for submission is June 30, 2016. Photographers of selected images will be notified by July 31, 2016. For more information about this effort please contact Miller at frostline.wv@gmail.com or 304.552.5992. The Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, a new rehabilitation center, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, rental apartments in Pineview and townhouses in The Pines.
