This year’s Tucker County Football team is young and inexperienced at the skill level. Gone are 4 seniors from last year’s team that will leave some shoes to fill for this new group. Last year the Mt. Lions finished the regular season with a 4-6 record and missed the playoffs.
Head Coach AJ Rapp has 48 kids out this year for football, but unfortunately there are only 8 seniors on the squad. Rapp said, “We have a great offensive line core back this year with 5 good guys up front.” One of the concerns for Coach Rapp is the lack of experience at the skilled position, “Some concerns we have is the receiver, tailback and fullback positions.”
This year the Quarterback position is nailed down by last year’s signal caller Daniel Kisamore who returns for his senior season. Rapp has confidence is his senior quarterback saying, “Kisamore is returning at quarterback after starting every game for us last year, he will do a good job for us back there this year.” Gone are former senior players Marshall Whisner, Michael Callaway, Isaac Cole and Logan Fridley. The Mt. Lions return some players with experience in Eddie Kachmarek, Logan Pitzer, Brody Strawderman, Will Callaway, Joey Howell, Dylon Husk and Zach Bishoff to name a few.
The Mt. Lions open the season one the road on August 28th at Pocahontas County. The schedule is tough this year for Tucker County as they will travel to Moorefield, East Hardy and Philip-Barbour for road contest, with Moorefield and Phillip-Barbour in back to back weeks. The Mt. Lions have the luxury of hosting 6 home games this season as they will entertain Tygarts Valley, Northern, MD, Southern, MD, Pendleton County, Petersburg and Notre Dame. The first home game will be September 4th against Tygarts Valley. Tucker County will stay at home on week 3 for a home contest with Northern, MD. After 2 road games at Moorefield and Philip-Barbour the Mt. Lions will return home on October 2nd against Southern, MD. A road game at East Hardy on October 9th is followed by Open week. The last three games of the season will be at home for the Mt. Lions this season; October 23rd Pendleton County, October 30th Petersburg, November 6th Notre Dame.
