THOMAS – Mothers are very special and on Tuesday, seniors gathered at the Mt. Top Senior Center to celebrate Mother’s Day and enjoy a luncheon. Tucker County Senior Center Director Roxanne Tuesing said the event called for something special.

“Today we are having strawberry rhubarb pie, giving special gifts, giving our mothers Krispy Kreme Donuts and flowers,” Tuesing said. “Our meals are being prepared using food we receive from the Mountaineer Food Bank. We have a wonderful group here today, and everyone is looking forward to the program and meal.”

Mary Mullenax shared memories of her mother.

“When we were young, our mother watched American Bandstand,” Mullenax said. “She would learn all the new dances and would teach them to us. When the twist came out, she taught us kids how to do it. She loved dancing and music.”

Mullenax sang the song, “Mother,” while all mothers present stood to be recognized. Rosalie Snyder shared a reading, “What is a Mother?” Jo Adamy read the poem, “Grandma’s Apron.”

Roz Eichelberger shared “Mother Taught Me,” which said mom taught religion saying, “You better pray that comes out of the carpet,” logic, “Because I said so – that’s why,” and justice, “One day you will have kids and I hope they all turn out just like you!”

Sam Eichelberger announced Dee Michael is celebrating a May birthday, and shared a chocolate cake provided by Hospice Care.
