With the latest cold snaps, the Parsons Water and Sewer Departments have seen its fair share of emergency calls, according to Director Red Lipscomb. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as all of the lines that have broken, have already been slated for replacement under the upcoming City Water and Sewer Projects, he said.

“The last couple, three weeks here, we have been having tremendous amounts of calls for sewer back ups and more sewer back ups,” Lipscomb said.

Two weeks ago, crews were called out on Saturday for a Moore Avenue line collapse, Lipscomb said. The collapse required replacement of 14 feet of line. The area is already slated for replacement under the current City Sewer Project.

“It seems like all the trouble areas we’re having lately is in the project area that is going to get replaced next, which is a good thing,” Lipscomb said.

Within the few days between Sunday, January 18th and Tuesday, January 20th, Lipscomb said that his Department saw three calls on Sunday and two on Tuesday.

Lipscomb met with the contractor for the City Sewer Project on Friday, January 16th. He said the meeting went well and was pleased to see the contractor was one whose work he was familiar with. The bid was anticipated to be awarded on Thursday, January 22nd and Lipscomb said the contractor was eager to begin within a week or two.
