Despite a few hiccups along the way, the first annual Parsons Day was a roaring success for the City of Parsons.
“It was a good day,” City of Parsons Member Tim Turner said. “Let’s not take away from it.”
The day was filled with fun for the community with a car show, Cornhole tournament, bands and children’s entertainment. Despite the successes, the City of Parsons Council said that lessons were learned from a few stumbles along the way.
Checks for the bands were mailed on Thursday and had not reached the bands before the event. The delay in payment had caused some confusion among the bands and reached the ears of City of Parsons Council Member Seth Rosenau, who brought it to the attention of the City of Parsons Council during the Council’s September 2nd meeting.
There was also delay in payment to the winners of the Cornhole tournament. The delay came as the result of the inability of the City Council to withdraw the money from the accounts in time to pay out cash prizes the day of the tournament. When the money needed withdrawn, the only signer available was Council Member Melissa Jones. The account requires two signatories.
“Its something we can clean up for next time for sure,” Turner said.
There was also discussion about the date for next year’s event. Discussion focused on finding a date that does not coincide with other events in the area and earlier planning of the event. There was also talk of the need to try to book bands earlier, as well.
The Council said that they felt the lessons learned from this year’s event was a good starting point and that it provided a good blue print to work from to expand on next year’s event. The Council said they plan to use what was learned from this year’s event to make future Parsons Days better events for the community.
