Sunday, October 6, the Tucker County Historical Society sponsored a presentation on Tucker County native and First Poet Laureate of the State of West Virginia Karl Dewey Meyers.  The presentation was given by Writer and Historian Cindy Karelis with local actor Thomas Yocum portraying Meyers in a series of dramatic poetry readings.

Meyers was a native of Moore in Tucker County, according to Karelis and was born to tragedy.  Karelis said Meyers was born with a birth defect that left him wheelchair bound and the size of a large child as an adult.  As a result, he was educated by his mother, but grew to become a talented writer, Karelis said.

The event was hosted by Barbara Alford of the Historical Society who acted as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
