The awards program and reception for STArt’s All-County Student Art Show is scheduled for Sunday, May 1 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Davis Fire Hall. In order to allow members of the community to vote for first, second, and third place in the People’s Choice Awards, the Davis Fire Hall will be open Saturday April 30 from 2-6 p.m. and again on Sunday, from noon until the awards program begins at 3:30 p.m.
In order to encourage and support students who participate in the arts, the WVHighlands Artisans Group sponsors the annual STArt (School-Town-Art) Student Art Show to recognize and reward student achievement in art. A display is presented of works completed during the year by Tucker County students and selected by the teachers in grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. In addition to The People’s Choice awards and Best in Show, there are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards and Honorable Mentions in each grade category. The towns of Thomas, Davis, and Parsons each present an award, as does the Davis Volunteer Fire Department. There is also a special award in Auto Detailing. Michael Doig, head of the Art Department at Davis and Elkins College, will judge this year’s show.
Once the Student Art Show is completed, all student work will be on display in county businesses through the month of May. The prize-winning works will be brought together in a special gallery during ArtSpring on Memorial Day weekend.
