Five Rivers Public Library’s summer reading program was June 4, 11, 18 and 25, the theme was “Adventures begin at your library”
Books were read to the children weekly and this year it was about Dinosaurs, Camping, Exercise and fitness Adventures. The last week was wrapped up at the park and splash pad.
The crafts, games, snacks & activities were geared towards the theme of the Summer Reading Program. Week 1, there was fun painting, coloring, dinosaur eggs created by using water, baking soda and vinegar, it fizzes and then a dinosaur appears. Dinosaur fossils and masks were created by the kiddos. The kids played hot lava tug a war, created a bug glow magnet and emoji kit. Summer camp week 2, the kids made an edible camp fire with apples, carrots and graham crackers, camp fire sticker scene, plastic bug rescue and glow in the dark lightning bug jar. Week 3, there was face painting and water table fun, various outdoor games, along with popsicles and drinks. All the days ended with lunch provided.
The last Summer Reading day was filled with fun at the park and splash pad with lunch, ice cream and fun on the playground equipment.
All children received goodie bags, with the top three readers receiving a special tote filled with a variety of items. Our top three readers were, 1st place went to Ryleigh Blue, 2nd place was Quinn Hovatter and 3rd place went to Gage Hovatter.
Of the reading lists that were turned in, 895 books were read for the 3 weeks of the program. To encourage the kids to read, there were several businesses who contributed certificates to the reading program. McDonalds, Black Fork Pizza, Crystal’s bakery, Bethany’s cakes & cupcakes, The Gram Slam Grill, Mr. Pizza, B & J’s Family Diner and Shop & Save.
Also, we would like to thank our Supporters Heart & Hand & Tucker County Community Action for providing lunch for our kiddos this year.
