The Tucker County High School Theatre Department is preparing to take the spotlight during their performance of The Capper Trap by Matthew K. Begbie. Performance dates are Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., Dec 4 at 4 p.m., and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
“The play is essentially about a greedy mother and a group of capers who are marrying off their children to get a fortune that both families are pretending to have,” says actress Abigail Holm. “My character Wanda is really relatable. I think everyone has relatives that are as crazy and stingy as she is.”
The performance is a fast pace, hilarious scheme that is fun for the whole family. “The mixture of humor and mystery make it a play that anyone can enjoy,” says senior actor Kyle Stemple. “My character Franklin is a lot of fun because he is so excited about getting married, but he is oblivious to the fact that she only wants his money.”
While the theatre company has undergone many changes in the past year, with Denver Gaydon and Erin Marks becoming the new faculty advisors, Stemple says that the cast has remained solid throughout these changes and are more prepared than ever. Director Kaylee Nedrow agrees in saying, “Mr. Gaydon and Ms. Marks have definitely pushed us to our full potential. I’ve had to take on a lot more responsibility as the director but everyone has really come together this year to give out new ideas and try to put this play at a higher level.”
The eleven cast members are active and diverse being football and basketball players, band members, student council representatives, and honor students. ”Just about everyone in the cast is involved in other extracurricular activities,” Nedrow says. “Instead of letting that hinder us, it has actually created an exciting, diverse atmosphere and has caused us to work harder together.”
The actors are excited to take the stage and show the community one of their best productions.
