HAMBLETON – The auditorium at TCHS was packed with parents, teachers, school administrators, family members and friends Friday evening as 21 students were inducted into the National Honor Society Blackwater Chapter.
Zoe Sypolt welcomed those gathered for the ceremony.
“They are to be recognized for their accomplishments and efforts that allow them to be a member of such a prestigious organization,” Sypolt said.
TCHS Principal Jay Hamric said parents of those being inducted into the National Honor Society should be proud of their children and said children should be proud of their parents.
“The parents have helped, supported, nourished, dragged you out of bed and forced you to do your homework late at night, got onto you when you needed it and driven thousands of miles to all of your events and different celebrations,” Hamric said.
“Students – your achievements in the realm of scholarship, leadership, community service and character are being honored here tonight by your induction into this prestigious society,” Hamric said. “This is a wonderful way for the school and community to recognize and celebrate the choices and sacrifices you have made.”
Hamric said what should make students and their parents proud is not the actual honor, but what they had to do to earn it.
“Any recognition is just the icing on the cake,” Hamric said. “I challenge you not to rest on your laurels, but to strive for even loftier goals.”
Inductees honored during Friday’s ceremony are Melanie Adams, Abrielle Bowley, Liana Brusak, Quinnlan Buckley, John Chambers, Ethan Crosten, Justin Fike, Jameson Hardy, Abigail Holm, Skyler Humphrey, Lindsey Knotts, Kenzie Kyle, Kristen Nestor, Lily Nestor, Elizabeth Nichols, Lindsey Poling, Brody Strawderman, Leah Underwood, Karsyn White, Kayla Wolford and Isabella Zais.
The National Honor Society Pledge is: I pledge to maintain high scholastic standing. To hold as fundamental and worthy an untarnished character, to endeavor intelligently and courageously to be a leader and give of myself freely in service to others. In so doing, I shall prove myself worthy of a place in the National Honor Society.
