The Tucker County Solid Waste Authority’s Accountant Mark Joseph was recently asked to present a report to the West Virginia Solid Waste Management Board in Charleston. The request came from Board Member and Tucker County Solid Waste Authority Presiding Chair Mark Holstine.

“I invited Mark to come to my Board for a meeting,” Holstine said.

Holstine said that Joseph went over a comparison of the financial status of the Tucker County Solid Waste Commission from when the Solid Waste Management Board superceded the facility in fiscal year 2021 to the end of fiscal year 2025.

“He did a comparison of FY21 to FY25 for my Board. He was able to present them the dashboard that I had talked to them about,” Holstine said.

Holstine said it was important for the State Board due to the fact that the Board has recently redone how they do performance reviews on all Solid Waste Authorities throughout the State of West Virginia. Holstine said that Joseph is working with the State office on a dashboard for all the Authorities that the State will do performance reviews on.

“To help us better monitor and manage what we’re looking for and what we’re not and I’ve talked about that to them forever and so I wanted them to meet Mr. Joseph,” Holstine said.

Holstine said the information provided by Joseph was quite valuable to the Board moving forward. Holstine also said that the information would also be valuable to the Tucker County Board as well and instructed Joseph to print the information out for the TCSWA members, as well.

“It was very valuable for my Board to see where we are versus where we were,” Holstine said. “It was quite astonishing.”

Holstine commended the TCSWA Board for the hard work the members have accomplished since June 30, 2021. He said that the Board has come a long way since the Solid Waste Management Authority superceded the Board. Holstine said the Landfill has greatly improved in the past four years.

“You all should be congratulated on that,” Holstine said. “We all have come a long way from where we were June 30, 2021.”
