The Town of Davis is considering adopting a No Camping Ordinance within Town limits, according to Town of Davis Mayor Al Tomson. Tomson informed the Davis Town Council July 9th that the matter arose from talks he has had with Town Manager Joni Felton.

“Joni and I have talked about a camping ordinance in Davis,” Tomson said.

The ordinance would be designed around prohibiting camping in Town limits, not allowing campers to be set up in Town limits and not allowing Airbnb units to be established in campers in Town.

“Where there’s no camping and you can’t put a camper in there and you can’t put an Airbnb in a camper,” Tomson said.

A list of considerations for the ordinance has been forwarded to the Town Attorney to be drawn into a draft ordinance for the Town Council, Tomson said.

“When that is finished, I will present that to you all to either approve or not approve an ordinance for No Camping in Davis,” Tomson said.

Tomson said the drafting of the ordinance is a preemptive measure due to concerns that have arisen that it may be needed in the near future.

“We have some concerns that may be coming so that is why the ordinance is preemptive,” Tomson said.
