Tucker County High School’s Baseball Assistant Coach Denzil Evans passed away on Monday afternoon April 18th. Evans was not only a coach, husband and father, but he was an avid Tucker County fan. Denzil could be seen at every Tucker County High School Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball home games cheering on the teams. RIP Denny, you will be greatly missed!
PARSONS – The Mt. Lions played host to Union and Trinity on Tuesday April 19th. In the first contest Tucker County dropped the game to the Tigers 13-6.
Union never gave up the lead after the 2nd inning as they scored 4 runs. Tucker County fought back as they scored 1 run in the 2nd inning off an Isaiah Hollis single that brought home Bailey Bennett. Union then scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and then added 3 runs in the 6th inning. The Mt. Lions got 2 runs in the 4th inning to cut the lead to 8-3. Then in the 5th inning Tucker County closed the deficit to 8-5 as they scored 2 more runs that were fueled by a 2 run home run by Bennett. The 6th inning belonged to the Tigers as they scored 3 runs to push the lead to 11-5. Tucker County did score one more run in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 11-6, but the Mt. Lions got no closer. Union added 2 more runs in the 7th to take home the win 13-6. Bailey Bennett led Tucker County as he went 2 for 2 from the plate.
PARSONS – Tucker County hosted Trinity in the nightcap on Tuesday April 19th. The Mt. Lions could not get their offense going and the Warriors dominated the game to win 12-0 over Tucker County.
The Mt. Lions got 7 hits on the night, but they could not get them at the right time to produce runs. Eric McCrum had 2 hits on the night and Aiden Bunnell also connected with the ball to pick up 2 hits in the 12-0 loss.
PARSONS – The Mt. Lions hosted Southern on Wednesday April 20th. Despite Justin Fike’s 2 hit performance Tucker County lost the game 16-3.
The Rams jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Fike then drove in a run in the 1st inning on a single to put the score to 2-1 Southern. In the 2nd inning Fike then hit a 2 run home run to give the Mt. Lions the lead 3-2 after 2 innings. Southern then exploded on offense as they score 14 answered runs to pick up the road win 16-3. Shayne Liller was charged with the loss for Tucker County.
Tucker County(3-12) will travel to Philip-Barbour tonight at 5pm and then the Mt. Lions will travel to Preston on Thursday April 28th for a 5pm contest. Tucker County will end the busy week with a Tournament in Webster County on Friday and Saturday, April 29th and 30th. The Mt. Lions will play Webster County at 6:30pm on Friday at Webster County.
