Tucker county boys win 3 in busy week to end regular season

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions started the week hosting Pendleton County on Monday February 22nd. Tucker County extended their lead in the fourth quarter and pulled away for a 74-56 win.

In the first quarter both teams battled back and forth with the visiting Wildcats leading after one 18-15. The Mt. Lions exploded for 24 points in the second quarter and held Pendleton County to just 13 points to take a 39-31 lead into the locker room at the half.

The third quarter was played pretty even as the Wildcats held a slim 14-12 scoring advantage in the third to make the score 51-45 Tucker County after three. The fourth quarter would belong to the Mt. Lions as they outpaced Pendleton County 22-11 in the final quarter to take home the 74-56 win.

Seth Evans led Tucker County with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ethan Crosten had 20 points, 7 assists and Skyler Humphrey added 13 points, 16 rebounds. Logan Cooper led Pendleton County with 16 points. The Tucker County JV team won the first game 40-35.

 

PETERSBURG – Tucker County traveled to Petersburg on Tuesday February 23rd. Tucker County used a strong second and fourth quarter to pick up the road victory 83-73.

The Mt. Lions got off to a quick start in the first and held a 20-15 lead after one. Tucker County continued to score in the second as they outpaced the Vikings 21-16 in the second to take a 41-31 lead at the half.

The third quarter belonged to the home standing Vikings as they outscored Tucker County 24-16 to cut the Mt. Lions lead to 57-55 after three. Tucker County controlled the final quarter as they score 26 points in the period and held Petersburg to 18 points to pick up the road victory 83-73.

Seth Evans led all scorers with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Kordell Fulton had 16 points, 5 assists and Ethan Crosten added 13 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds. Skyler Humphrey chipped in with 11 points, 9 rebounds and Marcus Mason had 9 points for Tucker County in the win. Ryan VanMeter led Petersburg with 23 points. The Tucker County JV team fell in the first game 58-47.

 

FRANKLIN – The Mt. Lions ended the busy week with a road game at Pendleton County on Saturday February 27th. Tucker County led throughout the game, but Pendleton County battled back in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The Mt. Lions prevailed in overtime 59-56.

In the first quarter Tucker County surged ahead and held a 12-9 lead after one quarter. The Wildcats battled back in the early part of the second, but the Mt. Lions responded as each team scored 16 points in the period to make the halftime score 28-25 Tucker County.

The third quarter was played pretty even as the Wildcats held a slim 13-11 scoring advantage in the third to make the score 39-38 Tucker County after three. The fourth quarter was also close as Pendleton County got an 11-10 advantage to tie the game after four quarters to force overtime. In overtime Tucker County got the lead and held on for the victory 59-56.

Seth Evans led Tucker County with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Ethan Crosten finished with 20 points, 5 assists and Kordell Fulton added 8 points, 4 assists. Luke Cooper led Pendleton County with 18 points. The Tucker County JV team lost their last game of the season 33-30.

The Mt. Lions(17-3) were scheduled to start Sectional play on Tuesday March 1st against Tygarts Valley at Elkins High School. If Tucker County wins Tuesday they will play the Notre Dame/Union winner on Thursday March 3rd at Elkins High School for the Sectional Championship.
